The Financial Aid Counselor develops scalable technological solutions to enhance financial aid processes and proactively supports students, particular focus on online learners, ensuring they receive timely and comprehensive assistance. The counselor provides in-depth information, and efficient, accurate, and timely service related to Financial Aid for a diverse and multicultural population. The Financial Aid Counselor works closely with students and families to provide guidance on financial aid options, eligibility, and completion of requirements, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and delivering excellent service with a goal for technological solutions to provide scalable self service to enhance the overall student experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
Student Advising: Provide personalized counseling to students and families regarding financial aid options, including federal, state, institutional, and private sources. Advising aid, loans, scholarships, and grants, while developing AI-driven solutions to scale support services, ensuring wider access and more efficient processing of financial aid information.
Application Assistance: Advise students on completion of financial aid requirements, application procedures such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarship applications, institutional and federal aid eligibility requirements, and accepting or declining aid, while leveraging technology solutions to scale support and streamline the application process for greater accessibility and efficiency.
5 Star Service: Provide comprehensive student financial information across all communication channels to not only address immediate inquiries but to anticipate student needs, with the ultimate goal of implementing 24/7 self-service solutions for continuous support and accessibility.
Eligibility Determination: Evaluate and verify financial aid eligibility based on institutional policies and federal/state regulations, ensuring compliance with financial aid guidelines, while implementing digital solutions to enhance efficiency and scalability in the eligibility determination process.
Award Packaging: Develop and adjust student financial aid packages in accordance with federal and institutional guidelines, ensuring that awards are properly communicated and recorded, while incorporating AI-driven solutions to scale processes and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of award distribution.
Ongoing Communication: Ensure students have 24/7 access to answers about their financial aid status, changes in eligibility, and important deadlines through technology-driven solutions, providing continuous updates and support to keep them informed proactively.
Compliance and Reporting: Stay up-to-date on changes in financial aid regulations and ensure that the institution remains compliant with all federal and state requirements. Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of student aid disbursements, while implementing proactive, scalable solutions to streamline compliance monitoring and reporting processes.
Financial Literacy Education: Educate students on budgeting, managing loans, and making informed financial decisions, promoting overall financial wellness by leveraging existing financial literacy programs and implementing new options to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Collaboration with Departments: Work collaboratively with other university departments, including DLX, SAOE, and Admissions, to ensure students receive the resources they need to meet their financial obligations and succeed academically, fostering seamless support through interdepartmental partnerships.
